Nabiswa Wanyama is a proud Afrikan born and raised in Nairobi Kenya. He is a music producer and Sound engineer popularly known as ‘Son Of The Sun’. He describes his genre of music as eclectic and soulful where he focuses on selecting varied soundscapes that give a calming effect and healing element to the music he creates. He draws inspiration from genres such as Neo-soul, Hiphop, RnB, Amapiano and Jazz.
His Musical Journey. . .
Nabiswa Wanyama has a long history with Arts in general where he started off as a drummer in their small church in Nairobi’s South C Area. It was during this time that his love for music and understanding for sound grew as he was surrounded by equipment at home as the house was used as storage for the church.
The neighborhood he lived in was also the background for Kenya’s most talented artist in the likes of E-sir, Longombas,K-rupt and many more.
His love for music was further developed in High school where he joined the band and choir.
It wasn’t until 2017 that Nabiswa began pursuing music as a career. He partnered with a few friends to form Kizazi Afriika, a collective to push their respective careers forward. Initially Son Of The Sun worked as the manager of the collective. It was only after he quit Law school in 2018 that he began to pursue his career in audio-production.
Nabiswa Wanyama’s first release was in April 2018 and was dubbed ‘Nataka Kubheng’. It featured King Kerby and it set the ball rolling for many more releases throughout the year.
Shamba La Wanyama Vol.1 was his first Major Release that was put out on April 20th 2020.It featured a myriad of talented artists from Kenya and a mix of many genres and styles. He then went to drop a surprise Ep that was controversially titled “Matako Baridi “that was released on 1st July 2020.
The project featured Collaborations from King Kerby, Olango the bassist and Amzi Odek a Kenyan Based Producer and Instrumentalist.
These two projects have not only rubberstamped his name as an upcoming producer with a unique and diverse style but they’ve also gotten amazing reviews and thumbs up from his peers in the industry.
Nabiswa Wanyama is planning releasing of a few more projects in 2020 to solidify his role in shaping the sound of Nairobi and Afrika in general and pushing the ceiling in terms of quality of music production.
Fun fact! Most of the music production is done in-house and the music is officially released under Kizazi Afriika recordz, that has a Music Studio setup in Rongai, Kajiado County.
What is The Son of The Sun most proud of?
His ability to do everything in a bedroom studio, with minimal resources and creating art that is empowering and healing to the African people and more importantly the Black Woman, the divine feminine.
His goal as an artist?
To create art that manifests itself into a lifestyle and impacts the generations to come. This is one of the core precepts of Kizazi Afriika; to unite African artist in a singular forum to nurture, promote and preserve African culture and heritage and foster its continuity.
